What makes the World Wide Web successful? Other than cost, availability, and people like you... nothing. The Internet is everything and nothing wrapped up as one. You can find your long lost friend from school or a picture of the moon with just a couple of keystrokes.

It's the unknown that attracts most. Many companies have attempted to 'measure' the Internet. The most recent stats appeared in internet World's December 1996 iissue. Here are some of the key numbers that are being discussed by the Internet Gurus for1997:

The number of unique domains doubles every 12 - 15 months.

~ there were about 6.6 million hosts in mid-1995.
~ there were about 12.8 million hosts in mid-1996!
~ a host is equal to one machine connected to the net, even though one host could have multiple unique domains...

The number of adult (18+) Internet users range from 16.4 million to 62 million.

The vast majority of activity occurs in North America and other English speaking regions.

Over 53% of the users have completed at least 4 years of college.

Internet users earn an average salary of $59,000. The U.S. average in 1994 was $20,690.

The average age of an Internet user is 33.

31.5% of all users are female.

92% of all Internet users are registered to vote... 60% voted in their last election.

58.9% of all Internet users are unmarried.
